This may be symptom of hyperactivity
ADHD brains struggle with dopamine regulation, getting excited about new tasks and especially bored or fatigued when it comes down to the nitty gritty details. Often individuals with ADHD are "ideas" people, starting new projects, hobbies, or making changes at home, work or life that are never quite implemented or are done too quickly. Or maybe you just regularly leave your laundry in the dryer overnight... Oops.

Memory, specifically short-term memory, can be a struggle with individuals with ADHD. Anyone can be forgetful when given with too much information at once, but already-over-stimulated ADHD brains have extra difficulty registering and retaining information when distractions are present. If you put much energy into it, you may be good at remembering simple tasks or particularly "important" tasks at school or work. However, other routines or tasks might be forgotten.

Routines can seem unproductive or unfulfilling for an individual with ADHD. ADHD brains crave dopamine and are naturally creative, innovative minds. Doing other tasks simultaeously may help you focus, and it may be easier in settings where you are more interactive. You may have lower tolerance for information that seems "boring" like historical documentaries, film noir and conversations about auto racing (is it just me?) Even if you are able to focus for a while, you may get drained faster than other people.

Sometimes it's the overstimulation, sometimes the executive functioning deficits us prone to impulsivity... other times, the fear of forgetting a thought. ADHD brains lack dopamine. Waiting does not provide dopamine. Waiting can feel quite irritating or depriving for someone with ADHD. Executive functioning abilities allow us to filter ourselves and while individuals with ADHD are capable of this, it's harder when vulnerable. Low dopamine = vulnerability. Waiting becomes extra difficult. You may find individuals with ADHD parked in front of the microwave willing the clock move faster. Be kind.
